February may be a short month but our member headlines are pretty big. We’re bringing you their stories of recognition for exemplifying extraordinary leadership.
Our mission at the NSLS is to Build Leaders Who Make a Better World. Our members participate in volunteer events, and take part in a wide range of community service initiatives. Upon graduation, they apply the interpersonal skills they've acquired to start businesses, pursue promotions, and more.
Alicia Johnson was recently profiled by the St. Charles Herald Guide for her work with at-risk children and students through SCARS, the nonprofit she co-founded to help support local young people and students. Alicia works to organize food drives for Thanksgiving, holiday toy giveaways, and other events.
Alicia earned her bachelor’s in child development and master’s in nonprofit management and leadership from Walden University. She’s employed in the St. Charles Parish school system as an in-school detention monitor and also provides services as a court-appointed advocate.

Marli Crowther was profiled by Alamosa News for her academic accomplishments, graduating with summa cum laude honors from Adams State University. Marli received two bachelor’s degrees in physical geography and conservation, and interdisciplinary studies in food studies with an emphasis in sustainability.
At Adams State, Marli served as President of the Latter-Day Saints Student Association Club and was honored with the Laramide Chapter Association of Women Geoscientists Outstanding Student Award in 2022. Her career plans include pursuing employment in the San Luis Valley while pursuing a master’s degree.

See Lee, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), was recently profiled on the school’s news page. MATC named See as the Outstanding Technical Diploma student for Fall 2022 in recognition of her academic achievements.
In addition to her induction into the NSLS, she’s been named to the MATC Vice President Honor Roll. She’s a mother of one child and works while pursuing her technical diploma at MATC. She also found time to assist her mother-in-law’s preparations for taking the US citizenship exam.

Tiffany Houze was named the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for Jefferson County Elementary School (JCES) by the Jefferson County School District. Tiffany began her career at Jefferson County schools as a kindergarten teacher and now teaches second grade, where she also serves on the School Leadership Team and the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) committee.
Tiffany earned a bachelor’s in child development as well as a master’s from Alcorn State University. She also received a specialist degree in counseling from Jackson State University. Her decision to pursue a career in education was influenced by her parents and grandparents, who were also educators and school administrators.

Board-certified nurse practitioner Crystal Davis has joined the staff of Riverside Healthcare in Illinois as a member of its psychiatric specialists team. Crystal earned her bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. She then earned her master’s in nursing at Walden University.
Crystal is a member of the Illinois Nurses Association. Her interests center on developing and maintaining strong community mental health programs as well as creating and maintaining positive working relationships with patients and their loved ones.
